Finally, Daun would arrive at the spot that they usually caught Walter if they were going to catch him. If they didn’t catch him there then they would abandon the chase and just go home. Here’s how it would usually go if the 3 bullies caught Walter: Walter would be lying on the ground with Carry sitting on top of him to make sure that he didn’t get away. In about 30 seconds, Michael would catch up and take a few practice hits at him. Practice however, didn’t mean that he missed on purpose. Oh no, he still hit Walter, and pretty hard too. It’s just that how hard he hit Walter then was nothing compared to what it was going to be later. Then, after Michael took a few practice hits, Daun, who was the slowest kid in the school, would arrive. That’s when Walter would really start getting scared. And it wasn’t just because of what he knew they were going to do to him. His fear was partly just because Daun was a pretty scary guy.

Daun was only 14 like Walter, but his arms and head were covered in tattoos of spiders and bugs and things that he knew Walter was especially scared of, and he would always wear these black leather vests that Walter hated. When Daun got there, he would always just stand still for a moment to let Walter’s fear sink in.

“Hmm,” He would say, “what kind of punishment shall we do today?” Then, he would think for a few seconds longer and then when he’d finally decided what he was going to do, he would snap his fingers and do it. One punishment that seemed to be his personal favorite was stepping on Walter face. That also happened to be Walter’s least favorite of all the things he ever did to him. Usually, after Daun did some kind of punishment like that, then Carry and Michael would know it was time to jump in and they would start kicking, punching, biting, or whatever they felt like doing. While they did this, Walter would usually just lay there wincing and covering his face with his hands. Then finally, usually about a half an hour later, when they started getting bored, they would each give Walter one last good kick and walk away. Then, more often than not, Walter would just break up both emotionally and physically and sob onto the ground, coughing up some blood too. Then he would head for home.
