Leaky Pen: Poetry

National Pride by Taeryn

National Pride
A half dozen collection of poems dealing with the concept of national pride and serving one’s country in a war, rewards or punishments for betrayal.

1.
Patriotism kills
Sending the best
And the brightest
To be slighted
At the preservation
Of their National pride

2.
War takes casualties of pride
All are caught by its web
And hang by it

3.
Escape Arts 101
First of all, run
Getting out is all you think
Even as you sink
And keep going on that trail
Even though we know you’ll fail
Have Fun

4.
No noose is good news
Carried away by the fervor
Of random neurons
Fired into the blankness
Of suffocation

5.
Guns can only shoot so far
When humans need to kill
And personal contact
Shatters the will
And slaughters the mind

6.
A hanging is a hanging
Dead man for his sins
No regrets for his deeds
Only calm collected
Facing death with a dance
