“Here, someone’s on the phone, and make it quick; I’m expecting a phone call.” The lady took the phone and she started talking with the man on the phone. Shel walked out of the room and began wandering aimlessly about the village. In half an hour he could take it no more; he burst into his office and said angrily to the lady who was still talking on the phone.

“I said ‘make it quick’.” The lady smiled at him and winked,

“That product sounds very worthwhile sir, thank you very much for letting us know. Goodbye.” She hung up the phone. Shel sank down in an armchair and sat waiting like a vulture by the phone. The lady who had talked on the phone suggested reading a book but every time he tried to read, his mind wandered down to earth, with the earth-person and the Cuñan. Finally the phone rang again and Shel jumped up, then he remembered that the phone was on a table right next to the couch and sat down again. He picked up the phone, took a deep breath, and trying to make his voice sound calm he said

“Hello.”

“Hi,” It was a female voice and Shel breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing it, this was definitely one of the Cuñans he’d sent down; he could recognize the voice and yet he couldn’t remember the name. Then his nerves mounted higher than they’d ever been before.

“Well,” He asked impatiently, “are you bringing the earth-person up?”

“Yes!” The woman burst out and she hung up. Shel needed to know more; when the earth-person was coming, how long they staying. But he decided to wait to call the Cuñan to ask because he knew that she was probably twice as scared as him.
