Hannah was ready at the door by 3:00, Thursday afternoon. She heard a honk, peered out the window and saw Lisa’s old faded blue car. She opened the door and hurried out. Hannah opened the door of the passenger seat and got in. She tried to start a conversation with Lisa but Lisa was staring off into space and seemed not to hear Hannah so she got a book out from her purse and read for a while.

At about 4:30 they arrived at the airport and Hannah who had flown twice before was used to it so for the first little bit she looked out the window, exclaiming over all the beautiful scenery. When she began to get tired, she started watching the movies that were showing and then when it started to get late she fell asleep.

In his office Shel was practically bouncing with excitement. He had just hung up with one of his workers and they had said that they had received news from the Cuñan who was on earth and she and the earth-person would be arriving in 3 days! They would be staying at a hotel called the Hopton Inn that was about a half an hour drive away from Shel’s office.

Shel needed to let everyone know the good news. The people needed hope and cheering up – especially those who had lost family members or friends – and an earth-person coming up was definitely the thing to give them hope. Among the many buttons on the wall there was one large silver button. It was used only in the greatest need. Everyone had a speaker on their walls. Every house and every store; every building anywhere. If you turned off that speaker then you would receive the greatest punishment on Cuña. The only place where there was the microphone to speak into it was Shel’s office. Shel needed to use it now alright. He pressed the silver button; it opened up and out came a silver microphone. He put his face close up to the microphone and spoke into it.

“Attention, Attention, Attention to all citizens of Cuña. Most of you know that there is a disease running through Cuña and the only people who can help are earth-people. I have sent people down to earth to act as earthman/women and see if there was anyone who loved space enough that they wouldn’t be mad if they were brought up here and perhaps they would help us for we only need 1 person. Well, we believe we have found someone!” Shel stopped talking for a moment. He was imagining the amazement that every person must be feeling right now. He took a deep breath and continued. “As we are not positive that she will like this planet, those of us who meet her will need to be on our best behavior. She will be arriving 3 days from now. Thank you.” He pressed the silver button again and the microphone folded back into the wall.
