When we were all done eating, we decided to go up, change into our pajamas and then play leapfrog again before going to bed – rather, Abby suggested it so of course Sarah and Justin agreed and I just decided to along with the group. We finished changing into our PJs and then we got into teams for leapfrog. Sarah and Justin hadn’t been together yet so they wanted to be on a team, leaving me no choice but to be with Abby. I smiled and pretended to be glad and yet I was getting more and more resentful towards her by the minute.

Now, although I would never have admitted it to myself, deep down I knew that the only reason I was getting madder at Abby was that I was starting to feel very bad about how I was tricking them and I was taking it out on Abby.

Being in front of Abby, I curled up and waited to feel her hands on my back. And then, I felt them and she was curled up in front of me. I leapt over her, pushing myself over by putting my hands on her back. In about 15 seconds, we had made it to the wall only to find that Sarah and Justin had made it there just a few seconds before. We decided to play once more and this time Sarah and I were on a team. Abby and I were in front and so we curled up into balls and the second we were curled up, I felt Sarah’s hands on my back and then she was curled up in front of me. I leapt up and over her and the second I was on the ground again; I curled up in a ball. In a few seconds, we were at the wall and I smiled when I saw that Abby and Justin were still a few seconds away. When Abby and Justin made it to the wall, I smiled smugly at Abby and once again said “Nice try.”

Now we decided that we would go to bed so once we had all brushed our teeth and done the things we needed to to get ready for bed, we headed downstairs. As soon as we’d gotten downstairs, I walked over to the bookshelves and cabinets to get the backpacks that I’d stuck behind them. I handed Abby hers, Justin his, and Sarah hers. I watched, smirking, as I saw Abby taking out her teddy bear.

“You still sleep with a teddy bear?” I asked her in a disbelieving voice.
