“Alright, well, shall we open presents then?” I asked Sarah and Justin.

“Why don’t we sing happy birthday first?” Asked Justin.

“Yes, lets,” Said Sarah at once. And so she and Justin began to sing happy birthday to me because I was turning ten today.

“Alright now should we open presents?” I asked irritably.

“Well, um, let us just go check one last time to make sure that Abby’s not here yet.” Said Justin. I told them that I thought they should go too and so Sarah and Justin ran outside while I sat inside filled with anger at Abby. After all, it was my party wasn’t it? So then why was everyone so sad that Abby wasn’t there yet? Wasn’t their attention supposed to be focused on me because it was my party?

As I heard the door open, I looked up and saw Sarah, Justin, and – and Abby walk inside. Pretending to be very glad to see her, I leapt up and hugged her.

“I’m so glad you’re here! Of course the party just wouldn’t have been the same without you. We were just about to open presents but we were so reluctant.” I saw Abby laugh but I really couldn’t tell what she was laughing about. Probably about the fact that she was getting all the attention when it was my party. As for me, I didn’t find that amusing at all.
